Faruq Darcuiel of Acropolis Developments Helps Open Newly Renovated Gym at Local Sports Powerhouse, Lincoln High School

Despite decades of athletic dominance, countless CIF championships, and producing elite athletes who went on to play professionally in the NFL, MLB, and NBA, Lincoln High School had been unable to upgrade its athletic facilities for nearly 30 years.

Home to legendary athletes including Marcus Allen and Terrell Davis, Lincoln has long been recognized as one of San Diego’s premier athletic programs. Yet despite its success and impact on generations of student athletes, the school continued to struggle securing funding for a much-needed renovation of its weight room.

Over the years, the program pursued district funding and local grants — including support efforts involving the Chargers — but the project never materialized.

After years without progress, Faruq Darcuiel, founding partner of Acropolis Developments, stepped in to fully fund the renovation through a private donation. Darcuiel also leveraged internal resources from Acropolis to help fast-track the project, bringing the renovation from concept to completion in just over two months.

Darcuiel’s connection to Lincoln runs deeper than philanthropy. His daughters attended the school for a year while playing for the girls basketball team, during which time he also volunteered as a strength and conditioning coach. Darcuiel and Lincoln head football coach David Dunn, longtime college friends, ultimately came together to launch the long-overdue project.

“High school athletics aren’t just about winning championships,” said Darcuiel. “They’re about building strong young men and women — physically, mentally, and emotionally — and preparing them for a better future. Facilities like this play a critical role in that mission.”

The newly renovated facility now gives Lincoln’s student athletes access to the kind of training environment long worthy of the school’s legacy and future. For Darcuiel and Acropolis Developments, the project represents more than just a renovation — it reflects a deeper commitment to investing in local communities and creating opportunities for the next generation to succeed both on and off the field.
